Photograph of Wilber Dosher. Wilbur Randall Dosher (1881-1960) was born in Southport, NC. He came to Wilmington, NC at an early age and was employed with the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad shops, where he learned the trades of pipe fitting and copper smithing. Dosher opened his own plumbing business in 1908 and ran it for 26 years. He was elected to the Board of County Commissioners in 1920 and resigned in 1930 to become a senator for New Hanover County in the North Carolina Legislature. Dosher sponsored the bill that created a board of examiners for plumbing and heating in North Carolina. He was also appointed Postmaster of the City of Wilmington in 1934 and retired from the position in 1952. Dosher was a member of the Fifth Avenue Methodist Church and a trustee of Wilmington College (now the University of North Carolina Wilmington). He is buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
