Reverand Robert Brent Drane (1800-1862), D. D., Rector for twenty-five years at Saint James Episcopal church, distinguished himself during the yellow fever epidemic of 1862 by courageously staying in Wilmington to administer to victims of the disease. He contracted yellow fever and died October 15, 1862. Originally from Prince George County, Maryland, he is buried in Oakdale Cemetery. He was 62 years old. There is a memorial tablet dedicated to him at the church.
