Edward Danilowicz on board a boat in character as pirate Stede Bonnet.
Edward Joseph Danilowicz (1952-2011) was a talented musician and songwriter from Wilmington, NC. He performed for Opera House Company and the Thalian Association. He was the Artist-in-Residence at the Community Arts Center, active in Theater in the Schools, and initiated the Poplar Grove Living History Program, where he brought to life various historical figures, including Stede Bonnet. Stede Bonnet was the infamous "Gentleman Pirate" who turned to piracy, so it was said, to escape an unhappy marriage in the early 1700s. At one point, he was supposed to have used the mouth of Bonnet's Creek in Southport, NC as a hideout for his ship. After a brief but exciting career, he was captured and taken to Charlestown where he was hanged on December 10, 1718.
Danilowicz is buried at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
