Photograph of Donald MacRae probably taken some time in the spring of 1898 before going to Raleigh in April to train for the war.
Donald MacRae (1861-1928) was a captain in the Second Regiment of the North Carolina Volunteers in the Spanish-American War, and in command of the company of 106 men from the Wilmington Light Infantry that volunteered for the war. Later, he was president-treasurer of the Wilmington Cotton Mills. He was appointed British Vice Consul for the port of Wilmington in 1917. Captain MacRae was born and died in Wilmington, and is buried in Oakdale Cemetery.
