Provenance: Contents were donated to the North Carolina History Room by James Linton Allegood‟s son, Carlton Ward Allegood.
Biographical Note: James Linton Allegood (1897-1991) was born on October 19, 1897 in Moultrie, Georgia. He graduated from the Norman Institute in 1917 and attended the University of Georgia before serving his country in World War I. Prior to starting his career in Wilmington he worked on the publishings, Coal Kings of West Virginia, Oklahoma and the Mid-Continental Oil Field, and Men and Motors of Michigan. Allegood became a distinguished member of New Hanover County, serving as the advertising director for the Wilmington Morning Star, now Star News, for 41 years. In addition he served as President of the Newspaper Advertising Executives Association of the Carolinas, the Cape Fear Sales Executive Club, and the Wilmington Exchange Club. In 1989, Allegood was recognized for holding the longest Exchange Club membership in North Carolina. He was married to Martha Ward Allegood for 51 years and had three children. James Linton Allegood died in Wilmington, North Carolina on July 7, 1992 at the age of 94.
Description: The collection contains one box of photographs taken by James Linton Allegood. The photographs center on New Hanover County and surrounding areas. Most date from the 1930‟s through the 1950‟s.
